The season for officer nominations at King’s Cross introduces a five month process. In the steps along the way, elders and nominees, and the congregation, are waiting on the Lord. Through this process, the Holy Spirit is exposing the character, ability, and desire of the nominees, which helps equip and encourage them for future ministry.
Informal interview: No later than April 29
Each nominee will meet with two or more elders to help assess his sense of meeting the biblical qualifications (1 Tim 3; Tit. 1; see an analysis of the biblical qualifications), his desire to serve, and his availability. At the April 29 Session Meeting the elders will vote to name our officer nominees to be announced to the congregation in the April 30 Community News.
Nominee instruction: May to August
Instruction will center on personal reading of the Westminster documents, the system of doctrine of our church, and deliberate social interaction with elders and deacons. Together they’ll address Christian experience, knowledge of Bible content, duties of the office, and an understanding of the ordination vows.
Examination: Aug. 26
In our denomination, eligibility for election includes an “examination.” Each nominee will complete two self-graded examinations (Bible content and system of doctrine). The “examination” will be an interview at the Aug. 26 Joint Officer Meeting where questions will mostly be about any doctrinal reservations related to their study of our denomination’s system of doctrine. Names of those voted by elders to become a Candidate Eligible of Election will be announced to the congregation in the Aug. 27 Community News
Congregational meeting: Sept. 27
Each candidate will need to receive a majority vote of the communicant members present.
Installation service: Oct. 4
Those who have not been ordained will be ordained during a Sunday morning service.
