John is from an Air Force family, having lived around the United States, as well as Italy and Iceland – but Anchorage, Alaska is home. He became a Christian as an adult. A literature degree in college was followed by grad school before being called to ministry while attending a church in Chicago. John has been a PCA pastor for several years, mostly in the Pacific Northwest, but arriving to Ashburn from Chattanooga, TN, in 2023. John and Karen have three children, two still in college. John loves theology, coffee, poetry, art, and very old Italian cars with impossible-to-pronounce names.
An old soul with a classic upbringing, Rachel has felt a call to worship her entire life — a call which, even at a young age, has constantly deepened through hardships endured. Rachel, having graduated from Berklee College of Music with a degree in Interdisciplinary Music Studies in 2021, is now working toward her masters in Worship and Music from Cairn University. When not blessing the church with one of her numerous instrumental or vocal gifts, Rachel can be found performing around the DelMarVa area, actively arranging music (primarily ‘50s tunes and crooner jazz!) for her YouTube channel, or creating fine art and photography of all things nerdy.
Kristin coordinates King’s Cross’ women’s ministry, and would love to listen to your story, sharing in the joy of knowing Jesus with you. In prior chapters of life, Kristin earned a Master of Arts in Theological Studies (MATS) from Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO and was a software trainer in Dallas, TX. She will always be a Texan, but Kristin moved to Loudoun County in 2016 and is happy to be building a home and community here with her husband John, a software engineer. In her free time, you can find Kristin in her garden or planning her next adventure.
Peggy is one of King’s Cross’ two Children’s Ministry Outreach Coordinators. Born and raised in Maryland as the middle of three kids, one of Peggy’s earliest and fondest memories is her grandmother singing hymns around the house and taking Peggy and her siblings to church every Sunday. In high school, Peggy started getting involved in children’s ministry. She claims to have learned much more from the kids than she has ever taught them, including the fact that it is not silly to dance to songs about Jesus—it is cool! In addition to dancing to songs about Jesus, Peggy loves reading and creative writing. Peggy and Sam, her husband of more than ten years, have three children, Elijah, Micah, and Noelle.
Juli is one of King’s Cross’ two Children’s Ministry Outreach Coordinators. Though a native New Yorker, she grew up right down the road in Sterling. Juli had a gradual coming to faith, but learned what it meant to have a relationship with Jesus through the CRU ministry while at James Madison University. Juli has been married to her husband Jason for over ten years and is mom to three kids, Conner, Raeya, and Jacob. Previously a teacher, Juli had spent plenty of time around children even before having three of her own. When she is not planning crafts, playdates, and Bible lessons for our King’s Cross kids, you can find Juli cleaning, repurposing forgotten treasures, or relaxing in her hammock.
Karen helps King’s Cross stay organized and effective for ministry. Karen grew up in a rice-farming community in northern California. Cultivated in the faith through godly parents, a faithful church, and several mission experiences, she loves serving others in behind-the-scenes ways. After marriage, she and John were called to gospel ministry through College Church in Wheaton, Illinois. The three Jones children were born just before, during, and immediately following John’s seminary studies. Congregational care is central to Karen. Her administrative skills were honed at a mortgage brokerage in Wheaton, a large private school in Anchorage, Alaska, and executive support at Covenant College. Karen loves hospitality, serving others, meeting new people, and being outdoors.
